About PABU Izakaya

PABU is a culinary delight created by Chef Ken Tominaga, of the famed Hana Japanese restaurant, and Chef Michael Mina. This unique take on the classic Japanese izakaya has been modernized by Tominaga and Mina as a celebration of world-class sashimi, sushi, grilled meats from the robata, and a modern, seasonal cocktail menu. PABU features the finest locally and globally sourced jet-fresh seafood flown in daily from Japan’s famed Tsukiji Market accented by its signature selection of A4 and A5 Japanese Wagyu.

PABU Izakaya is a japanese in San Francisco, California. It is listed at 101 California St, San Francisco, CA 94111, which places it among the local businesses of San Francisco that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under restaurant, sushi restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Francisco, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–2 pm. It is closed on Sunday. San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great service, enjoyed the service from the Tamara, she made the experience fun, enjoyable, special and added to the dining entire experience. She was playful, professional and friendly all the time. The courses were amazing and the Omakase manure was perfect and filling. I for sure will come back because of the service and the food.

Menu ideas and cocktails were perfect We got the special fried rice with lobster Wagyu and bone marrow which was amazing and the duck ramen. The shrimp toast was also so crunchy and nutty at the same time. Service was so perfect with a surprise birthday dessert and overall kindness. The only missing piece is seasoning. We felt like each dish could have had more salt or pepper seasoning or maybe some other balancing flavors maybe spicier ? Something made it feel bland despite the ingredients were so fresh and menu ideas were top notch. However the sushi roles were 100% top tier. We got rainbow rolls and toro/caviar/scallop roles which were one of the top 3 in SF.

Had the Omikaze. Fresh, tasty food. Attentive service. Caviar blue fin toro tartar - great texture. Salt from caviar brought out flavor in toro. Nigiri was excellent. The presentation was eye catching. The atmosphere was chill and we were able to converse without shouting. The only thing I didn’t enjoy which I normally love was the black cod- it was a bit salty for my taste. The chocolate dessert was very rich and yummy. I do recommend this place and would come back.

Valentine's Day Dinner β€” A $175/Person Disappointment At $175 per person, you'd expect near-Michelin-level quality in both food and service. What we got instead felt like a calculated cash grab dressed up as a special occasion dinner. Atmosphere & Seating The moment we walked in, it was clear the restaurant had reconfigured its layout specifically for Valentine's Day β€” cramming in as many 2-top tables as possible to maximize covers. The result? A packed, noisy dining room where couples are elbow-to-elbow with strangers. To make it worse, the seating was wildly inconsistent β€” some couples were seated in large booths meant for 6, while others (like us) were stuck at tiny two-tops with zero privacy. For a "romantic" Valentine's dinner, the atmosphere was anything but. Food Mediocre at best. The sashimi/nigiri plate was unremarkable, and the overall menu felt deliberately simple β€” likely to speed up table turnover. The steak was the highlight, with a creative sauce and solid mashed potatoes, but that's a low bar for this price point. Drinks We paid $40 for a glass of MoΓ«t & Chandon that arrived relatively flat and was not poured tableside β€” despite the table next to us receiving a
